I wanted to reach out to you about the restoration and remastering of William Burroughs first documentary (and the only long feature doc about him where he collaborated with full access). Directed by Howard Brookner, Burroughs: The Movie is a famous cult documentary made with the help of the BBC, shot during 5 years (1978/1983) with Jim Jarmusch on sound and Tom Dicillo on camera. This doc has been lost for decades after Brookner died of AIDS in 1989 (making 2 other films after this one: Robert Wilson and The Civil Wars and Bloodhounds of Broadway, starring a young and already famous Madonna). It premiered at the New York Film Festival in 1983 getting the best documentary award.
The project is lead by Aaron Brookner, Howard’s nephew, who is also producing Smash The Control Machine, a film about Howard and his time using the amazing archive Howard left behind with never before seen material around Burroughs. Burroughs: The Movie is just the tip of the iceberg of Howard Brookner’s archive and the story behind it is genuinely amazing.
Many thanks in advance for any support. Just spreading the word helps us a lot.-
The campaign is live now… http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pinball/restoration-of-burroughs-the-movie-by-howard-brook
It finishes on December 31st.

Thanks for reading,
Hi Paula, thank you for getting in touch. I have posted a short article with links to the Kickstarter page here: https://reflectonfilm.co.uk/2012/12/13/help-restore-burroughs-by-howard-brookner/
Best of luck with the restoration! I recently filmed interviews with Daevid Allen and Rikki Stein about the Dreamachine which Burroughs was involved in. You can see the video on the following page: http://briongysin.com/?p=1695
Thanks Tom! Ps. the name of Howard’s nephew is Aaron Brookner 🙂 Many many many thanks for the article,
all the best,
Paula
Oops! My apologies! Mistake now amended! Let me know if you get the chance to watch the Dreamachine video, Daevid and Rikki had very interesting stories to tell! Many thanks, Tom
Hey Tom,
I saw you were selected at the Berlinale Talent Campus. Aaron Brookner will also be there, I hope you can meet with him. I believe you may have people in common (James Elphick?). Thank you once again for the help you gave us with your coverage of the Kickstarter campaign around the Burroughs film,
Maybe see you in Berlin then!
All the best,
Paula
Hi Paula,
Thanks for getting in touch! Yes, I will be there indeed.
I’d be very pleased to meet Aaron and yourself. I hope the work on the Burroughs film is going well.
Yes, I’m a friend of James thats correct. It was through him that I met Frank Rynne during the Modern Panic exhibition last year and made the video.
Will you be in Berlin for the Burroughs film?
Many thanks!
Tom

Hi,
2D animation short movie, directed and created by concept artist Yousef Al.Bagshi The story based on real event which happen during the invasion but the artist has his own ending. The short movie shows fear, evil, empathy and some humour. The film was first screened in Dubai international film festival 2014 https://dubaifilmfest.com/en/films/40631/sandarah.html and the artist uploaded to Vimeo 7 months ago, but last week he made it available to public to view.

Dear Mohammad, thanks for getting in touch with this and my apologies for the slow reply. It is a very nicely animated piece of work! I will look to feature it among our short film strand. Best wishes, Tom
